Message to the Parents

For the conscientious high school student who is endeavouring to gain a place in a health science course, it is vital that they have a supporting home environment. The relationship that a student has with their parents is essential for the development of their character, values and morals, and the attitude they have towards their education.

Throughout their final year of schooling, the student will be faced with highly stressful situations and pressures. This may be due to school assessments, applications to universities, as well as pressure from family and relationships with friends or partners.

As their parent, you can be their major source of support through this demanding time for them.

  • You are able to become involved in their study and motivate and encourage them when they are going through a difficult time. You can help your child choose a course which they would like to choose as their future career. You can help you child by researching the UMAT process and preparation courses, and encourage them to become involved as early as in Year 11. This will reduce the pressure when they reach Year 12.
  • You can help your child to choose a UMAT preparation courses which is the most reputable for getting most students into their desired health science course. You can speak to the team of professionals within this course and enquire what they offer for your child’s particular needs. This is important as each student is an individual with a particular approach to learning and the most successful course will cater for your child’s unique requirements.
  • You can be of use to your child by helping them remember the application methods and requirements for each university and their dead lines.
