PreMed's Course Guide for the UMAT

  • Though ACER has not published any past UMAT papers, keeping in line with their theory that the UMAT cannot be prepared for, each student understands the benefit of practicing with similarly structured questions. For school subjects such as Biology and Chemistry, study guides are available to be purchased from book stores. The school offers students past exam papers to practice with. Students are given detailed information about the structure of their exam as well as what content will be examinable. The students thus have an idea of what to expect when they sit the exam. This is the aim of UMAT preparation course – to enlighten the student about what they will be faced with in the exam. Though the students will not be given content which they need to study beforehand, they will be given similarly structured questions and answer options, which they can become familiar with. It is highly important that the course contains questions which very closely resemble those of the UMAT. Thus it is important to choose a training course where its developers are highly experienced in all aspects of the UMAT assessment and what the testmakers’ preferred answers would be.
  • Remember that the last year of high school is a very stressful time for students, as they are trying to complete assignments and study for their final exams. Their study time for the UMAT is very limited, and therefore should be used very efficiently. Preparing with practice papers which are of the highest quality will ensure that the UMAT study time is most effective.
  • The UMAT is constantly being updated. The UMATInfoBook which is released by ACER each year gives the student an indication of the types of questions that will be asked in the UMAT. The actual exam will not vary much from these sample questions. However PREMED enables its students with skills which will enable them to accommodate what they have practiced to any format of questions which will arise in the new UMAT.
  • It is in the student’s BEST INTEREST NOT TO JOIN A COURSE which has been developed by a team that is inexperienced with producing studymaterial for aptitude and skills-based examinations. Undergoing the UMAT alone is NOT ENOUGH to become qualified at developing a multifaceted approach to attain success in this examination. A long track record of successful results and admissions into the students’ desired health science courses is vital for the reputation of any UMAT preparation course. We advise that this may be the primary criteria upon which you base your selection of a course.
  • Be aware of companies which use insulting, judgmental and indelicate language to attempt to discourage you from researching other preparation courses, instead of promoting themselves with a unique list of what they have to offer to students. Remember that your goal is to become involved in a course from a company which is most reputable for getting MOST students IN.
