PreMed's Course Guide for the UMAT

The student must uphold careful time management and prioritisation.

  • Though school exams and assignments take up much time and attention, the student cannot underestimate the significance of the UMAT for entry into their desired health science course.
  • However it is not impossible for UMAT candidates to perform well in the UMAT without undertaking a preparation course. It is simply a lot harder to prepare for the UMAT which has only a few UMAT type questions available to UMAT candidates.
  • The UMAT preparation practice questions that are provided in the UMAT2005 InfoBook are few and can not provide the UMAT candidate with enough practice for the UMAT.
  • The UMAT is a skills-based test. Section I of the UMAT examines logical reasoning and problem-solving skills. Section II of the UMAT examines the UMAT candidate’s interpersonal skills. Section Three of the UMAT assesses the UMAT candidate’s non-verbal reasoning.
  • Each student possesses these skills to some degree and the UMAT aims to rank the students accordingly. However the UMAT candidate can be prepared for this method of assessment of the UMAT through constant familiarisation with similarly structured questions.
