UMAT: Section I - sample questions
SUPERKEENEYE 2008 – UMAT SECTION III TRAINER
Section Three involves identification of shapes hidden within puzzles and examines overall spatial orientation ability.
SUPERKEENEYE is software which provides the UMAT candidate with diagrams which are identical to the ones found in the UMAT. The program offers its students a multitude of Type I and Type II UMAT Section III questions and the UMAT candidates are timed to gain an idea of their progress. It is important for the UMAT candidate to monitor their improvement and be able to adjust the level of their practice questions and quizzes for optimal UMAT Section III preparation.

The program is easily accessible online from any computer with an internet connection.
2008 SUPERKEENEYE Online Distance Delivery - Develop Spatial Skills (VSB 212)
SUPERKEENEYE helps students training their spatial visualisation, orientation, and aids them in solving a variety of perceptual ability problems.
The problems involving symbols in Section III of the UMAT measure the student’s ability to understand and to think logically. This measures the aptitude for abstract thinking and identifying common relationships and characteristics between letters, numbers and symbols.

About SUPERKEENEYE
PREMED ’s UMAT prep course would be incomplete without SUPERKEENEYE (SKE). This computer program provides exceptional preparation for Section III of the UMAT. SKE provides the UMAT candidate with diagrams which are identical to the ones found in the UMAT. The shapes which the UMAT candidate tries to locate in the mazes are identical to the shapes which were used in UMAT in the previous years. This is of a particular advantage to the UMAT candidate as he/she will be able to familiarise with a format which will be used throughout the exam.
Regular practice with SUPERKEENEYE (30-60 minutes a day) will ensure that the student receives more than enough preparation for Section III of the UMAT. The student will become accustomed to looking for particular lines and patterns within complex mazes. An increase in their spatial intelligence will be of particular use to them if there are changes in the UMAT.
Spatial Intelligence
Spatial intelligence questions examine the student’s perceptual and cognitive abilities without the influence of prior knowledge. This form of intelligence allows for mental manipulation of the orientation of 3D objects.
Spatial abilities can be increased through practice with puzzles and mazes, drawing and with building blocks. This is a reason for preparing for Section III of the UMAT with SUPERKEENEYE.
Characteristics of people with high Spatial-Intelligence:
- There are those among us with a highly developed right brain processing. These people are visual learners.
- They are very imaginative and creative and prefer posters and pictures and other visual arrangements of information.
- They like to daydream and may sometimes become so involved in their fantasies that they lose touch of reality.
- They are very good observers, noticing many details around them.
- They are well oriented in their surroundings and themselves in relation to others.
- This allows them to be skilled at drawing diagrams, solving puzzles, and drawing.
- People who are good at playing chess, drawing diagrams and illustrations, understanding geometry and completing jigsaw puzzles have a high spatial intelligence.
These skills are presented through the person’s:
- Paintings
- Diagrams
- Models
- Photographs
- Flow charts
- Plans
- Mases
- Drawings
- Maps
- Collages
A student can use the above checklists to determine how far their spatial intelligence extends. If a student finds it difficult to:
- solve problems involving spatial orientations
- use hand-eye coordination to construct or decorate models
- make designs which require design skills and judgment
then he or she would benefit from developing their spatial abilities.
Developing spatial intelligence is achieved through:
- Images to reinforce concepts
- Images to communicate complex ideas
- Building models
- Processing maps
- Visualising future goals
- Creating and watching videos
- Taking photographs
- Using visual posters and flash cards
- Highlighting information with colour
- Incorporate art with other subjects
- Doodle when studying
- Construct diagrams
- Imagine how you would look like in different orientations
- Picture objects, flip and rotate them in your mind
Who uses SUPERKEENEYE?
SUPERKEENEYE is an important tool for students who wish to develop their spatial abilities or to gain extra practice in questions that are similar to those in the UMAT. For students who do not particularly like puzzles and diagrams or find it difficult to manipulate them, they might find it difficult initially to find shapes or identify patterns within SUPERKEENEYE practice papers. The student must realise that under exam conditions, it would be even more difficult and would take up more time to do the same. With persistent practice, the student will find this easier to achieve.
SUPERKEENEYE allows the student to choose their level of difficulty of each maze and to take as much time as they find necessary to progress through the program. Consistent practice in the months prior to the exam will ensure that this student is confident that any changes to Section III of the UMAT will be easily confronted and overcome.
